St. Andrew’s Celebrates Solar Sunday

St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mar Vista recently celebrated a huge milestone in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact. On Sunday February 16th, they held their “Solar Sunday” event, an afternoon filled with great food, tours of the facility’s green aspects, a skit about the hazards of being wasteful, speeches from community leaders, and a blessing of the 28 shiny new SunPower solar panels we installed for them.

It was wonderful to work with Pastor Caleb, Jan Peters, and the rest of the congregation at St. Andrew’s to truly help them put into practice the environmental stewardship they preach. Their 9.2 kW system will generate clean, renewable energy and reduce their dependence on the energy coming in from the grid, which is mostly generated using fossil fuels.

Solar Forward was happy to be a part of St. Andrew’s Solar Sunday event to educate attendees about the ins and outs of generating clean energy. This is a panel cleaning system we saw at Intersolar 2013. Your panels will be clean and shiny, but surprise surprise, it’s more expensive than the panel itself.And it has lots of moving parts so it probably won’t last as long as our 25 year warranty panels!

State of the Art Backup Power Installed

SMA inverter with emergency back up power.

Yesterday we installed a state of the art SMA TL inverter with Emergency Backup power!

This allows for appliances to be used even when the power is out.

All you have to do is flip the switch below the inverter during a power outage and you’re free to use your refrigerator, coffee maker, cell phone charger or any other item in the house up to 1880 watts!

Check out our satisfied customer plugging in an appliance using solar power. As long as the sun is shining during a power blackout, you have power!

Demand German Solar Prices

In the golden state, solar is booming with over one gigawatt of rooftop solar installed. Still, many of us Californians are frustrated with solar – frustrated there is not more of it.

We shouldn’t stop at frustration. We should be outraged.

Greedy utility companies, and complacent politicians are depriving Californians of clean and affordable energy.

Powering much more our state with solar is absolutely doable. That is, if the major energy players put the full weight of their agencies behind it.

A slew of articlesin recent weeks featured this graphic comparing equal sized solar systems in Germany and the U.S.

Why in Europe, where most goods cost twice as much as in the U.S., are solar systems half the price?

The answer is Red Tape. Mountains of it.

Paperwork, fees, delays, changes in policy… These are the problems that mire American solar, making it twice as costly as German sun power.

Demand for solar will increase as prices drop (really). Residents, alongside the solar industry, must demand the roadblocks holding back renewable energy be removed.

Insist on German-priced solar in the U.S. Support Vote Solar and Citizens Climate Lobby.
